RCTV: The Evolution

Becoming the first and only local infotainment channel back in 2003 was no easy feat. It took a lot of risks and guts to come up with a local channel that would cater to the discriminating tastes of the Cebuanos. Now, after six years of being in the business, we are proud to say that the Cebuanos have grown to love the idea of having their very own community channel. After all, we would not reach six years in the industry without the support of our bai’s out there.

Here’s a quick backtrack of all the things that happened to your favorite community channel through the past six years.

2003

  • We were the first and only community channel at that time
  • We were the first with the “infotainment” concept
  • RCTV was built on the concept that people wanted to see moving ads (advertisements). Pictures were not enough. It was high time that the Cebuano market ventured into television advertising
  • The channel at this time was a television billboard, all you saw were ads
  • We ran on a 1-hour loop
  • Manpower of only 2 editors and 1 office staff
  • Tagline: The first infotainment channel in Cebu

2004

  • Three shows were introduced, namely ISMOL TAYM, Cebu Business with Bunny Pages and Drawing Board
  • The first community channel to introduce locally produced shows
  • We started covering events
  • We started having VJs
  • Donated books to schools in Lahug on its first anniversary
  • Manpower of 3 editors and 2 office staff
  • On this year, we were awarded by the Philippine Marketing Excellence Awards as the Most Outstanding Cebu Cable Channel

2005

  • In year 2005, our services expanded. We started producing quality and professional AVPs and Television Commercials that was beyond 30 seconds running time
  • We started coming up with our own events
  • We evolved from a simple infotainment channel to a full screen programming
  • We ran on a broadcast loop of 2-3 hours
  • Developed a new show—What’s Happening that featured different event coverages
  • We threw out 10 parties for the 2005 Advertising Congress held in Cebu
  • RCTV was presented as a new community channel and there definitely was new and healthy competition on air. Tagline was now changed to The REAL Cebu Television
  • Manpower of 4 editors, 1 cameraman, 1 production assistant and 4 office staff
  • In this year we were awarded by the National Shopper’s Choice Awards as the Number 1 Infotainment Channel

2006

  • Developed full TV format programming complete with shows and commercials
  • The format from 2003-2005 was compressed into one show which is now Around Town
  • Healthwise, a new show which featured health issues that concerned Cebuanos, was introduced on this year
  • In this year, we were once again awarded by the Philippine Marketing Excellence Awards as the Most Outstanding Infotainment Channel

2007

  • This year was the rebirth of RCTV. The channel was reformatted to aim for more shows.
  • New and exciting advertising packages were also offered
  • New shows were Report Card, Make My Trip and Perfect Day
  • Our website, www.rctv.com.ph was updated and given more meat and information so that we would be one step closer to your homes
  • Tagline became We got you covered, based on our flagship show Around Town.

2008

  • This year was a full blast with the arrival of more shows such as On Sight, Behind the Scenes with Nikki Taylor and Ultimate Living
  • We started to become aware of our social responsibility as a community channel and aimed to be more in touch with the current issues of our province
  • We launched Cebu's Best which introduced the concept of sachet advertising to give venue for micro businesses to have their products advertised on television
  • We started running on a 4-5 hour loop
  • RCTV is now composed of 13 dynamic, talented and creative individuals who never stop working to make your community channel the best there is

2009

  • On its 6th year, RCTV undergoes transitions and changes that would lift the local entertainment to a higher level. This is now RCTV Revolutionized.
  • The first part of the Revolution is a new and improved look of RCTV. This year we will give you a more modern, a more at par with the times RCTV as we move forward to show off Cebuano ingenuity for everyone to experience. Unlike the plain, rectangular old logo, the new one represents the freedom to think outside the box and the liberty to explore different means of bringing the best of Cebu to the world.
  • The second part of the Revolution is the new and improved website which will elevate RCTV from just being a local cable channel. Now, RCTV will reach other parts of the globe through the world wide web! The website, www.rctv.com.ph will unite Cebuanos all over the world through its social networking features. The best attribute of this website is the live on demand video streaming of RCTV's television broadcast! Now, not having a cable connection and not being in Cebu are no longer hindrances to watch RCTV!
  • Aside from having our shows in the website for everyone to see, RCTV's good broadcast quality shows will also be shown in the US and Canada through Viva Pinoy Pack! Selected RCTV shows have already been airing in those countries and getting noticed outside the country brings us so much pride and joy. Yes, this is part of the great RCTV Revolution but this milestone surely deserves a separate launching.
  • There's definitely more to come as our 6th year kicks off more firsts for the channel, more firsts for local cable television, and more firsts for Cebu, the province we all love.
